external hard drive on ME

I am upgrading my father's computer from me to xp. it is an HP pavilion and
it does not have a cd burner. He basically uses the machine for email and to
store and send and print digital pix from his camera. since i can not burn a
cd of his existing pix I was going to move them onto an ION Iogear external
usb hard drive that I have until the upgrade is completed and Then move them
back to his machine. I formatted the external drive using the ME machine and
it has been recognized. However, when I attempt to move or copy the pictures
from the C drive to the new G drive i get an error msg that reads....error
copying file or folder..cannot create or replace P1010004(where P1010004
represents one of the pictures): the disk is write protected. Remove the
write protection or use another disk.

I can move the files around from C to another location on C without any
problem and I can move or copy the pictures one by one to G but it will not
let me move an entire folder contents or multiple pictures.

Any and all help or suggestions wil be greatly appreciated and may i thank
all that reply in advance
