View Full Version : Windows won't shut down

When turning off the computer the computer will get to the screen that says
"Windows is shutting down", and that is as far as it will go. Occasionally
it will shut down, but most of the time it will not. Would appreciate
knowing what could possibly be the problem and what the remedy is.

Not much to go on. If you have Win98 SE, a shutdown patch is available from
Microsoft:

Click Start>Run, type MSCONFIG and click OK.
On the General tab, click the Advanced button.
Click to put a check mark in the box for "Disable fast shutdown", and click OK.
Click OK to close Msconfig, and restart the computer.

If that does not help, or if the box was already checked or wasn't there, go here:
