Still confused

[Elaine]

A while ago i had a problem with my pc. It shut off on me
one day without warning and for a while i couldnt get it
to start up anymore. I reinstalled windows and wiped
everything clean, but my monitor/pc keeps turning itself
off on me. I can go online or open windows but it wont
stay on very long.I cannot imagine what is causing this
problem. Any help would be greatly apreciated.
Along with the reinstall of windows98, i also lost my
sound. I've been trying to find and dowload the correct
drivers but whenever i try to download them it just turns
off on me again so i'm a bit stuck here. HELP

Elaine, have you got access to another monitor you can try? borrow one of a
friend or neibour perhaps. you could also try posting in this NG
"microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion" I`ve found them to be very good and
helpfull in the past.

Kim thanks for that Newsgroup! it is great and i got alot
of useful info from it.
Although i do have access to an old PC that still works,
i dont have the correct cables to hook up that monitor to
my current pc anylonger. What i did was connected my
current monitor to the old pc, and it stays on so i'm
pretty sure its not the monitor. Whenever it turns off i
hear a little tick inside the pc tower and the screen
turns off as in standby mode.
