I have installed Windows 98 on a friends PC, the
installation went fine, however I can't change the colour
settings to include 256 colours. The only settings we
have are 2 and 16. The computer is a Gateway, with a
Gateway VX700 monitor. Any idea's or suggestions would be
gratefully received.

Hi Andy,
This usually indicates that there is an incorrect video driver installed.
Here's some information on replacing the video driver. Go to the
Gateway web site and download the video driver for that system
and install it per there instructions. That should fix it. The driver may
also be on a disk that came with the system.
