You have the Office plugin installed.
From AVG support faq's:
<quote>
The plugin is installed when you can find the AVGOFF2K.DLL file in the AVG7
folder. If you like to deactivate this plugin, you don´t have to uninstall it.
You can deactivate it running this command from the Start->Run menu:
„regsvr32.exe /u avgoff2k.dll“. You can activate the plugin again using this
command: „regsvr32.exe avgoff2k.dll“.

Can u please tell what is the exact phrase to be written in run command as I
am getting errors while running.

glee
May 14th 05, 02:45 AM
regsvr32.exe /u avgoff2k.dll

Copy and paste it into the dialog box at Start>Run, to save the time of trying to
type it in correctly.

Thanks for the response Glen. I started going thru the messages, and then
recalled something I needed to do with my site as I slowly try to get it in
order. Took longer than expected to get the issue figured and had totally
forgotten OE was sitting patiently in the background.

Do you actually have the file named avgoff2k.dll on your hard drive?

First, click Start> Settings> Folder Options> View tab, and click to enable "Show
All Files" and click OK.
Click Start> Find> Files or Folders, and search the C:\ drive for a file named
avgoff2k.dll
Is it found?

I have the file mentioned and when I paste the command into run I get the
'load library avgoff2k.dll failed' as well.

Well then, it is starting to sound like someone at AVG didn't have their facts
straight. Perhaps Brian will come back to this thread and tell us if it works for
him. I don't use AVG any longer, so I can't check it.

Since webejammin has stated he gets the same error and has the file on his system,
the command may simply not work. In that case, you can uninstall the Office Plug-in
from AVG. Run AVG setup again using the Custom install option, and see if it brings
you to a screen where you can un-check the Office Plug-in and continue with setup to
remove the component. if not, you will have to uninstall AVG and then reinstall it
without the plug-in, using the Custom installation option.

I don't use AVG, yet I wonder if the way to unregister the plug must be typed as
it is in my response quoted from AVG support. See if copy/paste the way they had
it works with their special oddball quote characters.

"regsvr32.exe /u avgoff2k.dll"

No, you get an incorrect file name or path using the "oddball" ;-))

Really, the 2-3 second hesitation when you open an office program and AVG
'requests a virus scan' is inconsequential. Maybe a second layer of
protection couldn't hurt.

TK.

Did you actually see/get the oddball quotes? They show properly in my original
first response here but not in my other, go figure. In my OR the oddball quotes
in the front are low-line and the back ones are high-line but upside down.

I just did a copy/paste from the OR and they appeared properly in the run input
box.

Also from AVG support:
<quote>
How do I check that the Plugin for MS Office is installed and active?
Installation of this component implements virus control of documents that are
opened into the MS Office directly.
Run the MS Word for example, choose Tools menu -> Makro -> Security... ->
Security level tab, here you can see if a program for virus control is installed
or not.
</quote>

Using search on Office Plugin at their supsite produces a few categories:

Same error message with the low and high as in your first post... incorrect

And yea... I did not first catch the down & up quotes. Also, in MS Word the
'virus scanner is installed' appears in the Makro - Security.

Brian A, you DO have Oddball Quote Disease! I don't see it in this post,
but your original post sure had it...

....Quote..........
„regsvr32.exe avgoff2k.dll“

YUK!

Thanks or Good Luck,
