After downloading and installing a few windows update
files from microsoft web site, windows 98 (2nd edition)
will not finish loading when USB port is in use by the
cable modem. if i disconnect the USB port, reboot, windows
98 completely loads with icons, etc. then I plug USB port
back in and cable modem works fine.

do i need to reinstall the cable modem software?
do i need to reconfigure the USB port?

I checked the USB port through control panel, properties,
no errors there.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Please refer this question to a general discussion group for your operating
system. This problem is not internet related per se, it is a hardware
issue.

Lil Dave & Sandi,

Standalone statement you made. You left my and Sandy's reply out, so means
nothing.

I was perfectly polite, which is more than I can say for you. I hope your
attitude doesn't continue into the next group you use, there's no better way
to convince people NOT to provide you with assistance.
