Whenever I try to start Internet Explorer on my PC, which runs Windows 98, it leads to the Shut Down Screen within a minute or so, any ideas on why it does that? And if it's a virus, any ideas on how to get rid of it?

Hi Amarantha,

There are several possible reasons why starting IE will force a
shutdown/reboot. Check out the advice at the URL below:

Hi Sandi

Thanks for the link, but that talks about Internet Explorer itself shutting down, whereas for my computer the entire computer shuts down. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding, but the website only outlines problems for when IE shuts down. Thanks again for your help!

because IE, Explorer, and Windows are all one and the same, pretty much
intertwined, try working through those answers that Sandi Posted, 'they dont
get them mvps for nothing'

Amarantha,

The same advice applies, even though the computer in its entirety is
shutting down. Sorry that I wasn't clearer about that.
