My computer (on Win98) occasionally tries to access the
internet (dialup) although no internet applications are
running.
Sometimes after connection, Can't access and websites or
email (using IE5 and outlook express) although the
connection is racing.
Using alt-ctrl-del shows these programs are running in the
background, the files are found in \windows and
\windows\system respectively. Are they malware? I've seen
your advice on malware removal.

BELT.EXE:

http://www.2-spyware.com/entry-belt.html
http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.binet.html

Dunno about the other but I'd bet some sort of spyware, trojan or virus.

Patan,

Its impossible to answer your question on the limited information provided,
but you certainly need to check for malware. Check out the advice at the URL
