IE not allowing browsing

I have IE 5.5 and Win98 SE. After I finish connecting to
my ISP correctly, I try to browse and receive either a
message saying "Internet Explorer cannot open the search
page." or the "This page cannot be displayed." message. I
have already checked to make sure it wasnt trying to find
to surf VIA LAN, and am currently out of ideas.
