IP location

Hi
I am trying to get the internet on my Compaq Presario.
I tried running the Comcast disk, and it said it could
not find an ethernet connection. I then called Comcast,
they said I did not need the disk, just to go to
Start/Run/type in "winipcfg". I did and all I got
was "fatal error, connot read IP configation"
I need the internet, HELP!
