Robear:

The url that you posted does not accomplish the objective.

I myself have been trying to do this. Apparently there has been an update
CD for Windows 98/98SE that I have been trying to get my hands on. I had to
do a clean install of Windows 98SE on a system that had become corrupted and
I need the critical updates for it. I understand that if I connect to the
internet without the critical updates that the system can become compromised
before I am able to download the critcal updates. I would like to have a
hard copy of these updates because my dial up connection is very slow and
that I would have an archival copy of this so when Microsoft stops hosting
the critical update files I will still have the needed files.

On the following webpages:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/default.asp

http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/

when you select

'Download the Service Pack from Windows Update'

you get a bad link.

I am sure that there are many others that are interested in these updates,
obtaining them on another system and sneaker netting them to the system that
requires it. I have been trying to obtain these updates for a month now.
Millions of PCs running Windows 98/98SE have been built and in order to
maintain them as the systems that they have been designed that the critical
updates for them need to be available.

I appreaciate your time and attention in this matter Robear.

Please include previous message in your replies. I have no idea to what
your post is referring, Tom.

The Windows Critical Update CD is supposedly still available via MS Order
Desk.

U.S. Customers can contact the Microsoft Order Desk at 1-800-360-7561,
Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Pacific time.

Canadian Customers can contact the Microsoft Order Desk at 1-800-933-4750,
Monday through Friday, 5:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Pacific time.

The CD contains all critical updates for Win98 (and other OSS) through and
including those released in Oct-03.

Sneaker netting is allowed at the Catalog site, in fact it's exact
purpose is for that. That's one way to avoid being infected the moment
you go online, but really you would be safe enough going to MS sites to
download the updates with the target machine in the first place - it's
not THAT bad out there yet.

The service pack you refer to is for 98 only and was mostly a y2k
update, 98se didn't need it. Some people continue to believe that this
service pack took one from 98 to 98se and/or that fully updated 98 is
98se which are both misconceptions.

Go to the Catalog site and click on Find Updates in the left panel.
Select the OS you want to download for and do it. You'll need 800x600
resolution or higher to even see your buttons to click on...

Just an aside: Make sure your Active X controls are on, or it won't
work.
