View Full Version : Adaware, 1st run, confused

I installed Ad-Aware since it is so f'quently
endorsed by MSNG MVP's. Being a noncomplit Newbie, I'm
finding the program's large Help regime overplexing. I've
tried accessing Tomcoyote forum and forumSpyware but no
responses yet. I think I could work thru it if I could get
past one sticking point: access to the Ad-Watch Events Log
Window.
When I open |click Icon|, it takes me to "Status
Window". A note says, Adwatch... "not loaded". (I don't
know if that means anything).
When I |Quick Launch Icon| it takes me to "General
Options", whereas the Help text I am following indicates I
should be in "Settings",where I should click Adwatch
button. I |Adwatch| in "General" > "Settings", but the cue
boxes are greyed x's and don't respond.
I'm having prob's with a few other Help features too,
which make me think the author(s) had subscribers a little
more advanced than the rooster in mind. Should I just keep
plugging or can someone 'clue me in'?

Start it from the desktop icon, or start>programs>Lavasoft.
That should open on the Status page?
first check for updates.
then Start.
select all it finds?
Follow on screen prompts and remove them.
AdWatch is only available in the 'paid for' version.
HTH?

I didn't pick up on the 'paid for' distinctive @ the
download. It would have saved me a lot of time. I'll let
my anger management therapist go get something put on that
eye now.

Look under LAVASOFT in the start>programs. Also I run
SPYBOT in conjunction w/ ad-aware, Seems to keep the spys
and trash out.

SPYBOT is free also from www.download.com.com

>Gene,
Thanks. I don't seem to have a cue for LAVASOFT in my
start p'gm, but I'll dig some more. I'm using the Free
version for now. Could it be that your Rx applies to paid
users? [op. cit. "Mac"; same thread]
I do have the newest SPYBOT S&D (Advanced mode) as
well as a^2, WinPatrol, Spyhunter(Search), and
Hijackthis/Winzip, the concerted instructions for which
pairing were also written for someone with a savvy set a
couple of SD's farther west of the bulge than me.

Have you managed to run AdAware yet Rooster?

hadn't allowed for there being a diff between the two
versions.
It 'quarantined' a dozen or so things, which I suppose
is a good thing, but didn't find anything SS&D and
WinPatrol had missed. I didn't check the run time closely,
but is seems to do its duty the quickest of the three.
I also have a^2 on tap; very slow. Do y'all have any
opinion as to keeping it running too?

Are you paranoid or what?
You should be OK if you update your present arsenal on a daily basis :-))
Go to sleep now Rooster.
