Chris, I am going to be writing to Microsoft about the need for a maintenance
operating system in new NT operating systems such as XP PRO. Do you have any
suggestions on what to include and can you give me any help on what is needed
to accomplish this feat. I do not wnat to write and be completely clueless
about this. Thanks in advance!

Since you *are* relatively clueless about this subject, why not hold off
writing to MS about it? Chris is a big boy, and he has lots of ways to
talk directly to the people who decide these kinds of things. Heck, he's
been talking rather forcefully, with no holds barred, for a long time
now, long before he was finally added to the MVP roster. If he wants to
wage a campaign for this "Maintenance OS" idea, I'm sure he'll welcome
your support, and provide you with a detailed proposal. You, as a
stockholder, would certainly add weight to the request. But if you go
directly to MS, even with a proposal from Chris in hand, how are you
going to defend it if you aren't really technically savvy enough to do
so?

I don't suggest that you give up on the quest, but you shouldn't go off
half-cocked, either. It will take a substantial amount of research,
writing, debate, etc., and this newsgroup isn't really the place for
that kind of dialogue.

All right, I understand your concern, Gary. Perhaps Chris and I could e-mail
back and forth with our concerns and then present a well-thought out idea and
concrete evidence as to why this is needed.
