View Full Version : Unable to play winamp, error message : "waveOut output v2.0.2a err

Dear All,
Whenever I tried to play songs in winamp the following error message
appeared:

waveOut output v2.0.2a error
Unsupported PCM format (44100Hz, 16 bits per sample, 2 channels) Please
change format settings in input plug-in configuration or change output device
in waveOut plug-in configuration.

Error code 32
Windows error message
"MMSYSTEM032 The specified format cannot be translated or supported. Use the
capabilities function to view support formats."

I have submitted my problems before to the newsgroup on this page and have
received several professional advices to rectify the problems but none seem
to be working.
I have done the following:
1. Delete the current winamp and re-installed it. Have done several times
but received same error message.
2. Have deleted and upgraded to a newer version of winamp, etc.

Please kindly advice (refer to error message):
1."How to change format settings in input plug-in configuration or change
output devce in waveOut plug-in configuration"
2.Use the capabilities function to view support formats in MMSYSTEM032 The
specified format cannot be translated or supprted.

I believed if I can change the above configuration it will works. Please
advice how to do it. Before I do not have this problem, only recently. Could
it be worms, virus or something I accidentally delete or change
configurations. I can't remember exactly but I do remembered accidentally
change some configuration when the pop-up windows appeared by pressing OK. Do
I need to re-install Win98SE again. Any other good advice to help.
Thank you.

Do you have sound from other programs, and system sounds? Is it *only* Winamp that
is giving errors? Can you play the songs in Windows Media Player?

You wrote that you changed "some configuration when the pop-up windows appeared by
pressing OK". What pop-up windows?

What is listed in Control Panel> System> Device Manager tab, when you expand the
"Sound, Video and Game Controllers" section?
What is listed under Audio Devices, MIDI Devices, and Mixer Devices in Control
Panel> Multimedia> Devices tab?

You may need to reinstall the drivers for your sound card.

There is nothing wrong with the PCM 44100Hz, 16 bits per sample, 2
channels output format. It is standard wave and is as it should be.
However, there *is* a problem with the device using it. I suspect glee
is correct regarding sound card drivers.

To fix just Winamp you might try...

A. Winamp
Ctrl+P
Plugins
Output
waveOut plug-in
Configure
In the configure above, change the output device (if there is a choice)

- and/or -

2. Change the output plug in to Nullsoft Direct Sound (by highlighting
it)
_____________

If #1 above fixes Winamp, try...

Control Panel
Multimedia
Audio tab
Preferred Device
set to same as #1 above

If other apps play that does *not* mean that all your drivers are OK,
just the ones for that particular device.

OK, so you don't have sound in other players either, nor system sounds; and, you
show no playback devices in the Multimedia control panel. It looks like you need to
reinstall your sound drivers...do you have a driver disk for your sound card?
Otherwise you will need to properly identify it, and download the drivers for Win98.

Do you have anything in Add\Remove Programs that relates to the sound card drivers?

Hi Glee & dadioOH,

Thank you guys, for your valuable time, effort & advices. I am now able to
play song with the winamp. It is a very good feeling to be able to play song
with the winamp and hearing the songs again.

When dadiOH wrote: There is nothing wrong with the POP 44100Hz, 16 bits per
sample.....I suspect glee is correct regarding sound card driver.

What I done was while I re-installed the sound card driver, I noticed that
the playback device, Recording device were not in the system. So I
re-installed the CD player, MIDI player, Mixer and sound card driver whatever
on the cd. After installing all this, I tried to play the song with winamp,
and the sound came out loud and clear. I was temporary shock to hear the
sound / songs.
Thank you guys.
