Hello,

I just reinstalled windows, and I preserved all my files.
Is there any way that I can get all my previous settings
to revert back to how they were before I reinstalled? (ie-
my internet settings, display settings, drivers, etc.)
Thanks.

If all you did was reinstall, nothing should have changed. Except that
stupid big blue "E" on the desktop for IE.

If you reinstalled over a functioning version of Windows all your settings
should have been preserved. If you re-installed into a new folder, you may
be able to retrieve some settings from the original Windows folder, but it
would probably be simpler to re-install again into the correct folder and
delete the incorrect one.

If you reinstalled because Windows was hopelessly corrupted, or if you
deleted the Windows folder before re-installing, or if you re-installed to a
blank disk then there's no chance of recovering your Windows settings.

My windows was not functioning properly because there was
an error with Explorer.exe on startup that gave me a blank
desktop everytime. I did not reinstall to a new folder,
and I did not delete the windows folder before
reinstalling. Is there anything I can do??? Thanks or your
help. :-)

Note that re-installing is not the recommended solution to the problem of a
blank desktop.

If Windows has not picked up your settings from existing files, then those
file have been overwritten by the re-installation, and there is no way that
they can be recovered.

Files such as device drivers should still be on the disk, so that when you
go to re-install the devices the system will find the files on disk and use
them. Similarly, when you go to set up \your modem you may discover the
dial-up applet is already there ready to be used. However, if anything does
remain, you will only discover that when you got to do the setup
