I have Desire on my PC, thought I'd got rid of it a couple of years ago.

Whilst having a good clear out on my PC I discovered it in the temp folder,
deleted it and then from the recycle bin, but it kept installing in my
dial-up folder have done start>find and it is now moved to programs (twice)
/ and program files\diallers / and program files\diallers\ desire ....etcetc
!!!!

Is there a uninstall program to finally evict this persistent tenant.

Cheers Steve

1. If this is a virus or malware you may find expert
advice fastest in specialist newsgroups.
2. When in doubt, you can always disable the
malware EXE file by rebooting in DOS and renaming
it (e.g. DESIRE.BAD for DESIRE.EXE) because
DOS ignores special Windows protections (that
prevent your renaming or deleting a file currently
loaded.
2b. After this renaming, error messages may
appear after Registry or other file calls (and the
EXE cannot now be found), and you can follow
up each to remove the file call (e.g. via SYSEDIT.EXE).
But comprehensive removal usually means
removing DLLs as well cf. #1 above.

Have you asked the authors of the software? If it installs on a reboot,
then you need to see if you can find the file that reloads it at boot and
get rid of it.

Programs are generally started on boot from the start up folder on the start
menu, the load= and run= lines in the win.ini and these registry run keys:

1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run

3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce

4. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunOnce

5. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\ RunServices

6. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\
RunServicesOnce

7. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\
RunOnce\Setup

There is a freeware program that makes this process a lot easier to manage:
