If someone can enlighten me what does this indicate

1/ Upon boot up, you get the moden icon (near the clock) which says
Hsk. Up.448 Dn 3488

TIA

I am not sure why you are seeing that notice but it appears to be telling
you the amount of modem data transmitted out (up) and the amount received
(down).

Those are your Upstream and Downstream
Transmit /Receive Rates in Kbps.

Small b means bit (large B means Byte (character)).
so divide by 8 to get your "real" character transmission speed,
which some people find a little easier to get their head around.

Right-click the modem icon.

You should get choices such as Status and Diagnostics

It is a good thing that you stick around to help us all out, Hugh. It is
greatly appreciated. :>
