My general tab has disappeared from my options.I cannot
change my home page or delete and clean files.Can someone
help to correct this situation.

I assume you mean in Internet Explorer?
Start-Run-Regedit

There could be more than one "GeneralTab" value.
Try these keys first and then search for GeneralTab (no space)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte rnet
Explorer\Control Panel

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Int ernet
Explorer\Control Panel

Remove "GeneralTab" if present.

Check for the parasite that created this restriction.

To follow up on Alan's advice. CWS malware is probable the cause.

Missing the General Tab under Tools/Advanced tab...
This has been known to be caused by some malware called CoolWebSearch. Do
the following:
Download and run: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip to
remove the parasite.
Then download and run:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/iegentabs.reg to restore your
tabs and remove any restrictions that the parasite has put in place.
