setup updates configuration files problem

Every time a restart the system I get the message windows is configuring my
set-up files. I have not done any changes at all. Ran spybot, Ad-Aware, AVG
and the system is clean, Also when I try to open Excel my computer hangs.(
might be related ).

Can anyone help please.

Tim,

You have an application, perhaps even malware that you have not yet
located, that is creating a new wininit.ini file each time you boot your
system. Look for this file and its contents (it is a plain text file) may
give a clue as to what is creating it. I seem to recall that some McAfee
products can cause this problem.
