Windows Me and Wireless Networking

Is Windows Me actually compatible with wireless netorking? I have a
friend with two computers both running Windows Me. The main computer is
directly connected to a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The second
computer is some distance away from the main computer so to bridge the
gap between the two we used a Linksys WPA54G as a repeater. I am
getting a signal on the 2nd computer as indicated by the linksys
software and a signal strength of 54%. However, I am unable to get to
the internet on the 2nd computer. Any clues to what is wrong? The
second computer has a Linkys wireless PCI card installed.

Yes.

However having no experience of Linksys hardware I will leave it for
others to offer suggestions as to a solution. Alternatively contact
Linksys.

Yes. The PC of wireless routers and WAPs is just a normal TCP/IP over
Ethernet connection. Windows Me understands that.

I tried to set up a wireless network with a WAP54G as an access point on a
D-Link DI-704UP router. Failed miserably. Talked my friend (his network;
mine is all wired, and will not be going winless any time soon) to exchange
the Linksys for a D-Link DWL-7000AP. Had him up an running under 30 minutes.

I have installed six different wireless systems this year, using Linksys,
Netgear, Belkin, and D-Link hardware with various mixes of WinME, Win98,
W2K, and XP with little to no difficulty. Early hardware displays some
incompatibilities among vendors, but much of the difficulty is resolved now
with the later standards, .11g and a.
Our networking guru, Steve Winograd, and others, in the
....windowsme.networking ng can easily sort you out.
