for the upgrading to xp, will it cause my drivers or software to stop
functioning as they're installed by using win me driver previously(except
those that were prompted to uninstall first).

XP drivers are for the most part different from those required for Win Me.
On upgrading from a working Win Me system most if not all drivers will be
upgraded during the XP install. The XP upgrade advisor will have
previously informed you as to which you may need to install yourself by
downloading as necessary from the manufacturer's web site.
