All of my programs are gone, Windows opens but I cxannot
my d drive is not working, my a drive is not
working....They are not even listed in System devices,
nothing is, except for Local C-drive. My system used to
show 34% free, now it shows 76% free, I can't reload
anything from d or a drive, because they have been
disabled somehow....Any suggestions on fixing this
problem.

From the very poor description you have given, I would suspect that you have
a system in the terminal stages of a virus infection - and that your best
option would possibly be to reformat and reinstall (and that's something
I've NEVER said in this newsgroup before!)

The brief disciption is due to the fact I am using a
business computer, not to be used for personal issues.
My computer has been looked at by a technician who says
he's never seen anything like it. My screen only displays
monocolors, my mouse does not work, all of my system
devices have disappeared and only show up in safemode,
but cannot be opened, properites shows them as disabled,
but I cannot enable them. I cannot reformat or reinstall
because as mentioned before my "d" drive isn't working,
neither is my "a" drive. My internet device has been
disabled as well, Windows can be accessed, but I cannot
do anything with the system once there. My computer was
running fine untill this happened , then it froze and
shut down. I coundn't get it to start for days and when
it did, it was basically dead. >-----Original Message----

If business computer and technician has seen it up close and personal, then
I trust the service call sent someone capable to diagnose. I am sure he
tried all the normal things, and he's most likely your best source for a
solution. Based on your description of the problem it was best for someone
to actually see and test the computer in person anyway.

You don't need to be able to boot to Windows to be able to reformat and
reinstall - this is done from a floppy disk boot.

Amazingly, the problem was quite simple. The cpu had
become dislodged and was sitting on top of the mother
board. Somehow the signals were getting scrambled, so
nothing was working as it should. The tech reinstalled
the cpu, installed windows 98 over the ME , and now my
baby is working nicely.

Why install Win 98 over ME? - you lose some good stuff!

All that should have been required was replacing the CPU, and perhaps
repairing the existing install.

Glad you're all sorted, anyhow.

Good Luck
