Hi everyone,
I would really appreciate any help. I cannot get into windows. I get
the error message "mprexe has found an error in unknown. mprexe will
now close." This happens right as I am entering Windows. Before this
problem occurred, I could not get all the way through Scandisk
thorough scan. It would always stop at the same point, the computer
would start making a funny noise and then the computer would freeze.
One of these times the computer restarted and then that’s when the
mprexe error came up. I have not been able to get into Windows since.
The same problem happens in Safe Mode. I am using a Dell computer with
Windows ME.
I suspected a hard drive error, so I ran the Dell Diagnostics, but
there is no problem with the hard drive. Someone suggested running
Scandisk in DOS. When I start the computer with a startup disk, get
into DOS, and type scandisk, it immediately brings up the following
message:
"ScanDisk found a problem with drive C that might cause some programs
to work improperly.
Choose Fix It to have ScanDisk correct the problem.
Do not fix this problem if this drive if formatted for use with a
non-MS-DOS or Windows file system, such as HPFS or NTFS. In that case,
fixing the problem will damage the drive."
When I click on More Info, it brings up the following:
"The FAT media byte is missing.
The FAT media byte is a code located at the beginning of the file
allocation table (FAT). It indicates that the drive is properly
formatted for use with MS-DOS or Windows. ScanDisk can easily replace
the missing FAT media byte. However, if this drive is currently
formatted for use with another file system, such as HPFS or NTFS,
fixing the problem will damage the drive, and you might lose data."
I don’t know what any of this means, can anyone tell me what I should
do here? Also, when I click Don’t Fix It, I get the message There are
still errors on drive C. However, there is no choice to scan my drive.
Do I need to fix this error before I can run scandisk? Thanks.
