I am wondering if anyone can help me identify which file extensions go with
the files I need to back up when switching to XP. I want to save the email
messages, address book, favorites, etc. I know about the Word Perfect,
Quattro, Quickbooks and so forth. Are there any others I should consider
saving? My digital pictures are easily identifiable as well as any music I
have. There are some wallpaper files I could use, too. What are their
extensions? I have all the installed software so that is no problem. Any
anti-spyware, etc can be downloaded later, too. Thanks in advance.

address book would be somefile.wab (wab- Windows Address Book)
*.dbx or *.mbx are your mailbox folders in Outlook/Outlook express, may be
different for other mail readers.
*.doc for MS Word
*.xls for MS Excel
*.jpg, *.gif, *.ps etc for image files.

there are millions of them...
wall paper files are just images - jpg, jpeg or bmp.

The above site lists almost every filetype that exists and tells you what
program uses it, sometimes its' location and purpose.
Heirloom, old and been there
