my internet disconnects

Dear friends,

my internet diconnects after about 16 minutes every time(exactly
between 16.32 or 16.48 seconds).It started two weeks back.I tried
every thing in control panel-->internet option and in modem.Is it a
fault of my ISP.I use windows 98SE ,HSP56 modem(PCtel).
please reply.

It is probably a problem with your Internet connection. Such problems
are usually due to noise on the telephone line. However, I do not see
why noise would occur at 16-minute intervals.

Have you run Ad-Aware or similar to eliminate spyware? If not, do so.

You can try eliminating programs that star automatically when Windows
starts. Use MSConfig. You need to keep Systray and Taskmon running,
but other programs are optional. Obviously, if the problem goes away
when you eliminate a program, that program should be suspect.

Fri, 04 Jan 1980 may have something to do with it.

As in, that is the date and time your PC is set to.

I suggest that you replace your CMOS battery
before you go any further.
