View Full Version : Yen sign where backslash should be !

I am working on a Japanese language W98 computer. The
backslash key ( \ ) was apparantly setup as a hotkey for
the yen sign and I am having no luck trying to use the
actual \ sign. I am trying to install new hardware and
need the \ key to specify the file address for the new
driver. The \ key is listed in MS Word's set of symbols,
but when I cut and paste it into the file address prompt,
it converts back to the yen sign. Any thoughts? (Alt-092
= good suggestion, did not work though).

I didn't want to mention this because I don't have a 98 machine in front of
me, and I'm not familiar with Asian installations of Windows. But you *may*
be able to change the keyboard mapping in Control Panel, Regional Settings,
Languages tab.

I don't know for sure, but it *may* work if you just press=20
\ where you need a \, and pretend all the yen signs are=20
\'s...

Just as a simple test, try "cd =A5Windows" in the command=20
prompt, see if it works.

I had a program once (a frontend for yafray, not that it=20
matters) that displayed all the file paths with yen signs=20
instead of \'s, and while it was a little confusing to=20
read, it worked perfectly.
