If you are describing a BIOS level error msg - before windows starts
to load, then it's likely you have a conflict with a device set to use
COM A.
With a lack of specific details this is a guess on my behalf, but do
you have an internal ISA modem using COM1 [03f8]? . If so, then you need
to disable COM1 in BIOS setup peripherals page, as the modem will be
COM1 hence the conflict. Or you could configure the modem to use COM4
via the jumper block.
More details would help.
