My daughter has a Win98 OS and installed a card reader for her new
camera. It is a USB card reader that required a setup program for the
reader. When the system rebooted, the keyboard was not recognized and
the mouse was slow and jerky. I could not enter the password for the
login. I did a warm boot, and then it booted into safe mode, but the
keyboard did not work. I checked all the connections and all were OK.
I exited with mouse clicks and rebooted. When I got to the login, I was
hit cancel and Windows booted. No keyboard.

I could boot with a Win98 boot disk and delete files if I knew which
ones were replaced. Any idea how to troubleshoot this problem?

Thanks
Ken K

Try restoring the registry to a date prior to the USB problem, do
this:
Hit the F8 key when you PC starts to bring up the start menu, choose
command prompt only from the menu and enter this command:

scanreg /restore

pick a date from the list prior to the problem with the USB reader.
If all goes well contact the manufacture's support line for assistance.
