I have just bought a new machine, and installed my Windows
98 system on it, but over the years I have managed to
collect a substantial selection of fonts. I thought I
would have to do nothing more than simply copy my old
fonts directory over my new one. But this doesn't work.

How can I get all my fonts onto the new machine?

I would copy the contents of the old folder, not the folder itself or
just install them, assuming you don't overload the system with too
many fonts.

Control Panel/Fonts when the window opens, click on "File/Install
New Fonts" another window will open, navigate to where the fonts are,
hightlight them and click install all, or pick and choose..

have fun.
