Hello, I have a client with an unusual problem. He used to be on dialup
with EarthLink until he moved up here and changed over to DSL. Sometime
between the time he left the old residence and hooked up to the new one,
and switched out the dialup for the DSL, the computer has become
horribly slow. Bootup time, formerly 15 seconds, has now gone to about
40 seconds. The Internet is just painfully slow and it takes him about
12 *minutes* to even get online. Once he's online, surfing is painfully
slow. I have not even seen the system yet but I am going over there in
the morning.

Any ideas so far?

Spyware, Adware, viruses. Client needs the usual anti-malware apps installed,
updated and run, and needs a good firewall installed.

EZ Armor (antivirus and firewall, free one-year trial)
http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft

Ad-Aware (Best and most important, after antivirus app.)

SpyBot S&D (only use to clean--no immunizing or other functions suggested.)

HijackThis (DANGER! ONLY use to post log to appropriate forum(s) for diagnosis
by experts!) http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe

CWShredder (Minor but necessary)

Spyware Blaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html (Spyware
prevention.)
