My SpyBot S&D has suddenly turned slower than molasses in December. AFAIK,
nothing about my computer has been changed that would affect it. Previously
I could run a complete check in about 25-30 minutes. It now takes hours --
I can only complete it by running it overnight.

I have uninstalled SpyBot S&D and reinstalled it several times with no
improvement. My computer runs fast and fine as always on everything but
S&D.

Win 98 gold - fully updated
P11 300 MHz
320 megs ram

Ad-Aware
SpywareBlaster
Host file
Zone alarm
CA MyEtrust antivirus

Everything updated and ran regularly.

Any ideas?

Try changing settings/scan priority/time critical
Just a note, since updating to latest version, mine is running slower too.
Larger detection rules=longer scan time?

My scans take less than 5 minutes but I have it set to scan in NORMAL
PRIORITY. I would suggest that you review the settings to ensure that
nothing was changed inadvertently (Tools/Settings). Also, I don't
know if this impacts speed/efficiency or not but I have IMMUNIZE set
which in effect means that it rarely finds anything unless new
definitions are downloaded.

I had the same problem. Then I disabled my antivirus and it picked up the
speed. Now before running Sysbot I just disable antivirus and it works the
way it used to. Maybe you can try that.

Eureka, Mian! I had recently updated my CA eTrust to v7.0 and that's when
the slow S&D problem began but I never related it to the update. When I put
my AV in the "snooze" mode, SpyBot S&D ran at its previous rapid clip.
Since I also use ZoneAlarm, I am able to put it in the "stop all internet
activity" mode so I'm still protected during the running of S&D. Thanks
loads for the good advice.

You are welcome. Glad it worked for you. I assume the problem is with new
version of Sysbot (i.e. 1.3) and not with EZ Trust Antivirus. At home I have
EZ Trust and at office I have McAfee and it does the same thing if either
one of them is running in the background, ie really really slow down. I have
to disable McAfee as well.
