View Full Version : Can't access the HD!

My computer (running Windows 98) seems to boot OK, but I can’t access a hard
disk that I recently had installed from another computer.

When you start the machine and open Explorer, all you see just one drive –
drive C.

The HD just installed was from another computer that had Windows 2000
installed on it.

I'd hoped to be able to dual-boot the machine.

What is likely to be the problem?
How can it be resolved?

The motherboard (platform) BIOS needs to be told to "auto-detect" the drive and it should be
noted during the Power On Self Test (POST) then the hard disk that supported win2K must NOT
be NTFS to be seen by Win98. You would have to reformat the hard disk to FAT32 to be seen
by Win98.

A nice little app is Motherboard Monitor. It keeps track of fan speed, =
cpu, voltage, and temp. It has a dashboard that can be kept autohidden =
on the edge of the screen and monitored items that can be onscreen or in =
the systray. You can set it to autostart with windows or manually start =
it to see the monitored items and what they are currently running at.
The author has discontinued development on it, but it is still =
available for download.

What file system is on the Win2K drive? Win98 is not able to "see" NTFS
partitions.
