Can someone enlighten me how to extract "OPENHCI.SYS" from the windows 98SE
CD. My Neice needs this file on her PC, she has just fitted a USB 2.0 PCI
card so that she can connect her broadband modem. Her machine does not have
USB ports as standard.

Many thanks

'John',

Establish the location to which you need save the file

Insert your Windows CD > Go to Start > Run > type in: sfc > OK >
Select: 'Extract one file from installation disk' > follow the wizard >

You need to copy four files from the Win98SE CD:

Easiest way to look for these files in the 98 CD is to right click on START and do a Find.

openhci.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers
Ntkern.vxd to c:\windows\system
usbhub.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers
usbd.sys to c:\windows\system32\drivers

'John',

This site will hopefully be of some help if you have difficulties.

My Friend
The file you need is located in:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\openhci.sys

I tell you for certain that there is no file named "openhci.sys" in win98
CD, but if you want to check it yourself, you can open the "cab" files using
"ZipMagic 2000".

John probably has extracted the file already, as he was given enough
information nine days ago but...

The file may or may not be in the folder you indicate. It is not in my
installation.

I can tell you for certain that openhci.sys is in BASE5.CAB in the
Win98 SE CD.

Right, as Edwards says... Openhci.sys is in BASE5.CAB, & I don't have
one in any folder this Win98SE.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,
