Hello,

After a normal reboot, my mouse pointer (PS/2 port) has vanished.

PC Spec: PIII 600MHz, 64 MB Ram, 10Gb HDD, Xpert98 AGP 2X, Win98 SE.

I have scanned for virus, adware and spyware using Stinger, Ad-aware 6.0 and
Spybot respectively.
I have also replaced my PS/2 port mouse with a USB version, yet I still have
the same problem.

Can someone please help?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,

Jim.

What happens if you boot into Safe Mode.
The mouse is then supposed to work (at
the simplest level, 1 click only.)

Hi Don,

I booted into safe mode and the mouse worked fine... absolutely no problems.

What does this mean?

Thanks ever so much for your help.

Cheers,

Jim.

This means the mouse (hardware) is OK:
your problem is in software, but we do not
know whether (a) Win98 system code or
(b) mouse-specifiic drivers.
Next simple things to try are:
(either) via / settings / control panel / system / device manager
select / mouse / your moust / properties / driver
and update driver
(or) delete mouse from device manager
and reboot to resinstall from scratch
(or) use / control panel / add hardware
to input correct details and driver for the mouse.

All this can be done in Safe Mode (if the
mouse or system software is on the hard drive.)
