Looking at new Dell 8400 systems. 1GB of DDR2 SDRAM. Both systems run
Pentium 3.2GHZ 540 processor, 800mhzFSB. One system RAM is rated at 400MHZ
and the other at 533MHZ. How significant a difference is this? Thanks, Steve
T.

the FSB of Processor and RAM's FSB should match...check the RAM's FSB
anyways it cant match 800FSB..so try going for the higher ones..

If FSB's are matched, it gives the optimal performance.

You're way behind the times. What you say WAS true, but no longer. Copy
the entire link below into your address box internet browser.

This is normal for P4 motherboards for the system bus and memory bus to be
of different bus speeds.

...LOL ...quad pumped internal GOD knows WHAT ...to get the illusion of a
800mhz front side bus !!!!!
....the bloody thing still only runs at 200mhz on the motherboard !

I keep an eye on the hardware, and those with money to throw away buy Intel,
and those with common sense, and a view to saving a few hundred pounds, buy
AMD.

I'm using an "old" XP 2600+ Barton Core cpu ...512kb of L2 cache on a
PCchips M848ALU motherboard (not dual channel!) / one stick of 512 ddram
that runs at 166mhz on the board. Ooops! let's "trump" it up a bit ....I
mean I'VE GOT A 333mhz front side bus !!!! ...What a load of crap !!!!!!
Admittedly the DDR feature improves data throughput quite a lot but really !
.....oh I give up !

regards, Richard
