Have been away from home for extended periods and in on weekends for a only a
few hours at a time. On one of my weekend "visits" (mid to late Aug. '04), I
had several Critical Updates available, which I downloaded successfully.
About a month or so ago, I was home again and doing some work on the
computer. I was trying to locate a picture on my hard drive, and when I tried
to scan through the various folders, I started getting the script error
message (I view my folders as web pages).
Upon closer examination, when I open the "My Computer" window, I notice the
upper left hand corner icon is gone and a box with an "X" in the corner
appears in it's place (missing icon?). Also missing is the hard drive "pie
chart" icon. I use single click activation, so when I hover over a folder in
the My Computer window, immediately the Internet Explorer Script Error window
pops open.
It states I have a script error on the page..
LINE: 116
CHAR: 4
ERROR: "Object doesn't support this property or method"
CODE: 0
URL: file//C:\Windows\web\mycomp.htt
I select to continue running scripts and go to the next folder (in this case
C: drive).
When the C: drive window opens, it too is missing the upper left icon and
displays the missing icon box. When I hover over a folder, the IE Script
Error window appears immediately again. the error message states:
LINE: 269
CHAR: 4
ERROR: Object doesn't support property or method
CODE: 0
URL: file//C:\Windows\web\folder.htt
When I click yes to continue running scripts on this page, the folder name
and date (or file type, date and size) will display under the particular
folder (in this case C:) heading. If the selected file is a picture file
(jpeg, gif, etc) I no longer have my image preview below the item description.
I am not computer jockey, so please list step-by-step procedures for
possible repair solutions. Is this a common problem or something unique. I
thought perhaps someone had inadvertently downloaded something bad, but a
virus/spyware scan reveals nothing unusual.
ALL SUGGESTIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
Thanks in advace for your help,
Joe
