When I'm trying to install w98se there is a
message "owerwrite bootsector Y/N" and the pc is
beeping!!!???
I have done fdisk and format with w98 startdisk with no
problem.
There was xp installed before if this is the problem?Have
this operating system done something to the bootrecord
and can I do something about it?

This is almost surely your BIOS (hardware) antivirus software falsely
triggering as Windows 98 tries to install its boot files. Disable it before
proceeding with the Windows installation.

Harry, I read that if you try to format a disc and
reinstall Windows 98 back from Xp your going to run into
problems. Supposedly, if you go from NTFS to FAT32 it
isn't going to work to well since Windows98 is not
compatible with NTFS. I read somewhere you have to
actually reformat the disc using the Windows Xp
installation disc back into FAT32 before going back and
installing Windows 98(SE).
