I got the trojan virus and managed to get it into the virus vault along with
the file it attached itself to. Now when windows starts up, I get an error
message that says it can't locate file: EGCOM SERVICES_1048.dll
I x out the error box and go about my business and everything seems to work
fine.
My question, do I need this file, and if so, how do I get a good one.

Jack i was reading your thread sounds like if you were to type msconfig
at the start button you would see that file there and i am sure that it
would be in your regedit as well, if it were me i would certainly clean
my regedit ........ i have tried many tools and one thats free and
works excellent is regcleaner at http://www.idf50.co.uk/dm30.htm and
also i would do a netstat -ut that would show you and extra open ports
that you might have on your computer ... now if you are missing any
system files and you have your windows cd you can type SFC thats system
file checker ... that would be the 2nd last resort the last resort would
be to reinstall windows and start fresh... but i would check msconfig,
then clean my registry, then do a on line virus scan using a good
antivirus such as panda ...

No, you don'r need it.
Check in Msconfig for any oddities.
(Start-Run-MSCONFIG-Startup tab)
If you cannot see anything in Msconfig then:

Start-Run-msinfo32
Click the + beside Software Environment to expand.
Click Startup Programs
Ctrl+A to Select All, Ctrl+C to Copy.
Paste that information in your message.
