i'm a novice computer user/ please use simple language &
exact instructions. i have win 98 SE, r.r.cable, pc-cillin
2002 antivirus with latest update & use outlook express
version 6. am now getting error msg in O.E. starting
yesteday:"connection to server has failed.pop-
server.hawaii.com server:localhost(this used to say:pop-
server.hawaii.com) error#00x800ccc0e"
in going to TrendMicro.com(pc-cillin's site)to get help,
they ask 100 ?'s about my computer's specs. I don't know
what "service pack version" is or where to find it. Can't
email Trend without it, they incomplete box won't let the
email go out.
any suggestions? I'll need to reset something to get the
pc-cillin to live happily with the roadrunner cable
outlook express. suggestions on the best way to get this
solved? many thanks, e.t.

Trend has nothing to do with it!!!! It's your settings
under Outlook Express -> tools -> accounts -> mail account
(for your iSP)... where you need to check the account
properties match the parameters your iSP gave you to use

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

<paste>
Disabling email protection does not leave you vulnerable to viruses and
malicious software in email. It is a separate layer of protection in
addition to Auto-Protect. Auto-Protect scans any incoming files, including
email, as they are saved to your hard drive. As long as you keep your virus
definitions up to date with LiveUpdate, and keep Auto-Protect enabled and
set to scan files as they are created or downloaded, your system is fully
protected.
</paste>
