Installed HP CD Writer 9100 with original disc, system hangs whenever we try
to use it. A web search suggests the following solution, but config.sys file
appears empty. The solution we found was as follows - Reorder your
CONFIG.SYS so that the driver statement is in the first line. Make sure you
backup your original CONFIG.SYS first. Also, look for a LASTDRIVE statement.
If there isn't one, add a line before the CD-ROM driver that says
LASTDRIVE=Z. Make sure that the driver statement has a /L :x after it (where
x is the letter of the CD-ROM drive). Lastly, make sure all of your cables
for the drive are connected correctly. - As I said - config.sys appears to
have nothing in it. What do I do now? Any suggestions?
