This is curious advice.
Windows by itself uses HIMEM.SYS at boot.
Windows does not use the other four (DOS)
boot commands.

Yes, I know. But emm386 does not know this.
Yes windows does use emm386.exe
If I didn't include those lines. My computer would freeze constantly

I using windows 98se on emachine Amd Athlon w2040 made for xp.
Yes I have all the windows 98se drivers. I think windows 98se does
not properly recognize the type of memory installed. Windows me does
work a little better on this and even windows me is even faster than
windows xp.

However,
One addition if using smart drive lower the maximum buffer should be 8

Memory Type Total Used Free
---------------- -------- -------- --------
Conventional 640K 48K 592K
Upper 0K 0K 0K
Reserved 0K 0K 0K
Extended (XMS) 65,472K ? 359,180K
Total memory 66,112K ? 359,772K

Total under 1 MB 640K 48K 592K

Largest executable program size 592K (606,608 bytes)
Largest free upper memory block 0K (0 bytes)
MS-DOS is resident in the high memory area.
