View Full Version : can't install os

I still can't install an os. I still get the message
that this computer doesn't have enough extended memory. I
have tried the suggestion that Bill gave but it didn't
work. I would really appreciate some help on this
matter.

I keep getting the following message: "the windows 98
startup diak could not create a temporary drive for the
diagnostic tools. This may be because this computer has
less than the minimum required extended memory.
Path not found - :\COMMAND.COM
Path not found - :\EXTRACT.EXE
Path not found - :\README.TXT
Bad command or file name
The diagnostic tools were successfully loaded to drive.
File not found."
A:\>

Nothing I try works. This is a new hard drive with
nothing on it.

Make a new floppy start up disk using the Fat32ebd.exe file located on the
W98 CD: tools/mtsutil/fat32ebd

Pamela,

It would help if you would post back into the same thread. You will
miss messages if you start new threads for the same problem.

If you can get to the C:\ prompt either with or without the startup
diskette then enter MEM /C from Dos, does it show ALL your
memory?

I can't get a C:\ prompt. It tells me Bad command or
file name. I can only get a A:\ prompt. My memory shows
up in the Bios though.

I can't make a new start up disk. I just get the
messages: "Bad command or file name" and "invalid drive
specification."

Using the computer you are posting with, put in the W98 CD and browse to:
tools/mtsutil/fat32ebd Double click the Fat32ebd.exe file and follow the on
screen prompts to make a new startup disk. For information on installing
W98, go to: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/w98_restore.html

You are posting to a W98 newsgroup and didn't think it was essential to tell
us that you have XP? Suggest you post in an XP newsgroup.
