I just "upgraded" to Scansoft's Ommipage Pro 14 Office
from version 11. I am running 98SE on a Micron PIII 733
w/ 512mb ram.

The system failed to reboot after completing the
installation. I discovered that I could not even boot to
safe mode. Safe mode gets me a desktop w/o any task bar.
Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del brings up an empty task manager. I
was able to complete a boot to windows (normal mode) by
using the step-by step option and skipping over the
config.sys file.

After getting windows up, I uninstalled Omnipage and tried
rebooting windows again... problem still exists. My
config.sys file looks pretty ordinary (copied below). I
understand that it is not rellay needed for 98SE so I
guess I'll just rename it.

Any suggestions as to what might be causing the problem
will be greatly appreciated.

Contents of config.sys file:

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
device=c:\windows\emm386.exe NOEMS
LASTDRIVE=Z

REM [CD-ROM Drive]

REM [Miscellaneous]

Don't see the relation between the config.sys file and your problem you
relate as Omnipage install related. Don't know why you need upper memory,
in expanded format, available for drivers not existent in config.sys file .
But that's another subject. Or perhaps its the actual issue.
