I accidentally deleted this file and now can no longer
start my computer. The MS website gives me instructions
which start from clicking RUN etc. This is hard because I
can't even get this far. The best I can get into is DOS
but I'm too IT illiterate to know what to do next.
I have my Windows 98 disc and a copy of the file I need
but now would like some really basic instructions as to
how I install this on my computer.
Thanks. Any help appreciated.

I would type (the bits after C:\> etc)
C:\> CD 'Location of your copy of MSVCRT.DLL' <Enter>
(e.g CD Windows\Desktop\Files <Enter>)
C:\etc.\> COPY MSVCRT.DLL C:\Windows\Desktop\MSVCRT.DLL
Once it says '1 file copied successfully', reboot and it
should load windows fine

As long as you are sure the file is the correct version:
Copy the file to a floppy, boot to Dos on the problem machine and
then insert the floppy. Then enter;
Copy A:\msvcrt.dll C:\Windows\System. <enter>
Remove the floppy and reboot.
