When starting my desk top windows boots then I get
a "could not find SYSTEM.INI. go to setup to reinstall.
But, when I go to setup I'm not sure what to do. The comp.
allows me to so nothing else but shut it down after the
message. What can I do to get my PC up again?

You can boot to DOS and restore a previous version of the Registry
with the command:

Scanreg /Restore

System.ini is included in the backup.
