Win98SE
OPTi 82C861 PCI to USB Open Host Controller

* Card is on Win98 HCL List
* USB Mouse works
* Flash drive doesn't work (works on other Win98 pc)
* Digital camera doesn't work (works on other Win98 pc)

- My pc is an old Pentium 1 with an AT power
supply: hence no advanced ACPI (like soft
power off on button);
- however the motherboard supports ATX power
supplies;
- if I replace the old AT power supply with
a new ATX power, will my camera and flash
disk work?

I don't think that if u replace ur power supply then ur
camera and flash disk will work because the devices u want
to attach to ur system has nothinh to do with power supply
as they r getting power from UPS or CVT.It seems to be the
problem with ur USB ports or USB cables.

Hmm I think you're right; I removed most of my expansion
cards yesterday and someother stuff to check that the USB
card was getting enough power (sound card, lan card,
stiffy drive, extra harddrive etc). No avail. Nevertheless
it would be nice to have soft-on soft-off and proper ACPI.

* USB cables work; all the USB devices work 100% on my
other newer Win98SE pc. The USB ports *do* work; my USB
mouse works in problem computer.

* USBVIEW.EXE says I have a selfpowered hub; 500mA for
each port. Camera says it used 0mA on working pc (it has
its own batteries).

* However; I noticed that my mouse (which works)
communicates using INTERRUPT; while the camera uses BULK.
And the camera also uses 2 pipes. I downloaded the Intel
USB testing applet from usb.org and I got 100% all clear.

* When I plug in the digicam; I get a new SCSI Controller
thing for HP Camera/Disk thing; and under USB get a HP
device thing;

* I goto explorer I have a new Removable Disk, but if I
click on it entire system freezes until I unplug it; then
pc works fine.

* If I right click > properties then it says capacity: 0,
free space: 0, label: blank (disabled) filesystem: FAT
