View Full Version : Error after scandisk

After doing a scandisk on my computer, I just get the
following msg when I try to restart the computer: MSGSRV32
caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown> at
bff7:bcde2485

Thereafter the computer freezes. What can I do to correct
this situation? Eventually: Can I do anything to undo the
scandisk-corrections?

The machine is using Windows-98 SE.

Thanks in advance.

To try to combat the current error message, this isn't a precise fit but
may contain a useful technique, if you can get to Safe Mode...
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;262998&Product=w98
Error Message: Msgsrv32 Caused a General Protection Fault in User.exe
(262998) - When you start or shut down your computer, you may receive
the following error message: Msgsrv32 Caused a General Protection Fault
in module User.exe

I fear, however, Scandisk may have "repaired" something poorly. No
telling, then, the troubles you will see. To see what it did, boot to
DOS & look inside "C:\Scandisk.log".

(a) Boot to DOS. (Hold CTRL as you boot for the Startup Menu, & select
"Command Prompt Only".)

(b) In Dos, you may see "C:\Scandisk.log" this way...

EDIT C:\Scandisk.log
Alt-F-X (pressed separately) to exit EDIT. (TAB to traverse buttons.)

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,
