I need something that I can download and install with only 400MB of
disk space left. Like to get one that includes free updates.

Appreciate any recommendations and info on free space required on the
HD.

Avg may work. It may not be small. Registration is required

If you got that much space left, you may want to try a web based anti vir.

I'd try AntiVir Personal Edition. It's taking up only 17mb on my hard
drive. It is free, easy to use and there are frequent updates.

AVG Free from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php is less than 12 MB
installed.

www.avast.com

30MB in Program Files when installed. Free. Auto update.

AVG requires 15MB or so.

I used it on my "for fun" [1] machine (200MHz Pentium , 32MB RAM, 840MB hard
drive) where I control the usage of disk space.

[1] for games, Internet, installing programs...
