from your A: drive
issue the command format C:

Sounds like your drive isn't repartioned properly. If
there is nothing else you need to backup on the harddrive,
type "fdisk" (without the quotes) and the delete any
partions, and then make a primary partion following
instructions of the program. It will ask you to restart,
do so, then format the new partion (your new C: drive) and
then try installing again.

WARNING: Repartioning will destroy ALL data on the
harddrive in question. If you accidently repartition
another harddrive by mistake all the data is gone.

Identify the brand of hard drive, go to the drive maker's web site and
download their diagnostic software. It runs from a floppy disk and will
tell you the health of your hard drive. If the drive has failed, you will
have to replace it. If it is OK, then you will probably have to run fdisk,
format and reinstall W98.
