Linux machine not showing in workgroup

I have a small network of 4 machines. Three desktops running W98SE, W2k Pro
and Linux plus a laptop running WinME.

Now the first thing to say is that the W98SE W2K and Linux boxes all work
fine and all can see each other just fine and all the computer icons show
up.

When I go thorugh from My Network PLaces to the workgroup (all m/cs on the
same workgroup) to the workgroup I can see the W98SE and W2K desktop icons
plus the laptop icon just fine. The Linux icon is not there. I can find the
Linux box by searching and I can set up a network place OK and the share
icon appears and I can access the data. However I can ifnd no way of making
the Linux icon appear on the workgroup folder!

Anyone any ideas as I dont want to have to setup each individual folder
which is shareable on the Linux box, I just want to click on the m/c icon
and see all available shares.

As I said this proble only exists on the WinME laptop.

Anyone shed any light on this behaviour?

I think I am getting confused...

Actually, you didn't say that until now; but it does clear up my confusion.

Based on other, similar questions, I am getting the feeling that a Windows
Me computer tries to take over as the network browse master, no matter what,
and possibly loses track while contending with another browse master. Other
than that, I am at a loss for an explanation.

As an experiment, because you do have a Windows 2000 system, I would go into
the Windows Me File and Print sharing properties and turn of the browse
master. Give the network fifteen minutes after all computers are up, and
then see if you can get that Linux computer's icon. The worst case is that
you won't see the icon as you expect; and, by then, maybe somebody more
clued will come along with a suggestion.

I have browse master turned off in WinME and it made no difference.
